Battlefield (Song Lyrics)

The lyrics for a song I wrote for a group activity, where we had to compose a song. I'm pretty proud of it, so I thought I'd share it. It seems like more of a poem, which is understandable since I have more experience writing those. But with the final tune of the song, and the background music, it came out sounding really good.

The battle is won,
But is it truly?
I see the wounded and ailing
All around me.

Every scar on a soldier,
Has its own tale,
Each cut and bullet wound,
Proof that they will prevail.

Smoke, bullets and chaos,
Cries and calls of war,
The battle continues all around,
More intense than ever before.

They have kin and so do I,
How to justify our victory,
If we all just die?
How do I justify the immoral
Laws of war?
How do I justify,
All the lives lost?
There is no victory,
If we all just die.

The memories of past,
Weaving through my mind,
Not ones that cause me sorrow,
But those of the good kind.

Swinging on my arms
My  sons and daughters
Playing on the beach
Filling the air with laughter.

They have kin and so do I,
How to justify our victory,
If we all just die?
How do I justify the immoral
Laws of war?
How do I justify,
All the lives lost?
There is no victory,
If we all just die.

Oh how quick the laughter stops,
No time to realise and gaze,
When the country requires you
In the trench, with your gun ablaze.

The finger on the trigger,
Trembling as I aim,
My heart knows that if I shoot,
Only I will take the blame.

Every long day,
The battle rages on,
My heart grows heavy,
My spirit stays strong.

Yes, the enemy is defeated
Yes, we have won,
But what about the dead
And those left with none?

They have kin and so do I,
How to justify our victory,
If we all just die?
How do I justify the immoral
Laws of war?
How do I justify,
All the lives lost?
There is no victory,
If we all just die.

They have kin and so do I,
How to justify our victory,
If we all just die..
How to justify our victory
If we all just die..
